Yesterday afternoon I actually got off my lift truck at work pain free, which I thought would never happen. Three weeks ago I thought I would have to sign for another job, not to mention I was wishing for death because of the excruciating pain I was experiencing.
Also along with the sciatica I would experience a stiff neck, which now after doing the exercises rotates freely like I got a lube job on it. I still take the prescribed pain medication when needed for the sciatica, and I am not completely pain free yet, but I think I am on my way.
For thirty years Pamela Kihm, Guild Certified Feldenkrais® Practitioner, has been motivating her clients to choose more healthful movement options. Pamela's background includes a degree in Behavioral Science. In 1977 she was one of the first advocates of low-impact aerobics, choreographing and teaching routines to help her students reach aerobic levels without causing joint damage.
In 1987 she was introduced to the Feldenkrais Method® of Somatic Education and she began the intensive, 800+ hour certification process. She has had an active and continuous Feldenkrais Practice since receiving her certification in 1991.
In her private practice as a Guild Certified Feldenkrais® Practitioner (GCFP) and exercise trainer for people with physical challenges, Pamela doesn't just ameliorate symptoms of pain. She helps clients learn how they can move in ways that are more efficient, ways of moving that cause less wear and tear through their joints. Frequently her clients find that subtle modifications to regimens prescribed by the medical community make those exercises noticeably less painful and markedly more effective.
Pamela says, "It's like solving a puzzle to discover how to help each person in the best way possible." Many of her students have said, "Why didn't anyone ever tell me this before?" or "It's so logical, but I never would have thought of this myself."
In 2003, at the urging of a student who found relief from years of sciatic pain under Pamela's teaching, she wrote her first book, Stop Sciatica Now! In order to help more people than was possible through just her private practice, she has since added two more titles to the PainFreeChoices® booklist: Relax Your Back With a Roller: Exercises and Strategies to Eliminate Pain and Walking: Nature's Perfect Exercise.
Pamela's books are based on the Feldenkrais Method® of Somatic Education developed by Moshe Feldenkrais, D.Sc. Dr. Feldenkrais was a genius at understanding and teaching "skeletal engineering." For example, when your skeleton is well organized, your muscles don't have to work as hard to keep you upright. As a result movement is more comfortable and, even more importantly, more effective.
